SIMPLE GUIDE TO FRENCH PRESS COFFEE

A few months ago I shared a simple guide to pour over coffee and now I'm sharing the french press method! In my opinion, french press coffee is better than machine drip coffee, but not quite as good as the pour over method. Also a bonus, this method is just as fast as using a coffee pot!

So let's get to the goods! Here is how to make your french press coffee:

First, you will need the actual french press! Here is a 12oz one we suggest to get: Bodum French Press Coffee Maker. You can buy smaller or larger ones as well!

French press coffee is measured at a 12:1 ratio, meaning that you use 1 gram of coffee for every 12 grams of water. In the photos below, we made two cups of coffee which was 58 grams of coffee and 700 grams of water.

Step 1: Grind your favorite coffee beans! You will want a course / even grind. The best way to do this is to use a hand coffee grinder like this one: Hario Coffee Mill. If you don't have a hand grinder, you can use an electric grinder on the coarse setting! This is the one we use: Cuisinart Automatic Mill.

Step 2: Time to bring your water to a boil, you can do this with a kettle on the stove or by using an electric kettle. Here is one similar to what we use: Harbor Electric Kettle

Once it is brought to a rolling boil, remove it from the heat and let it sit for one minute. The temperature should be around 195 degrees. Some people use a thermometer to make it exact, but we just guesstimate.

Step 3: Using a long spoon, stir the grounds in an up and down circular motion to mix it well.

Step 4: Put the cover on the french press and let it steep for 4 minutes!

Step 5: When the 4 minutes have passed, push down the grounds with the french press and you're done! Pour yourself and someone else a cup and enjoy!!
