New House Build: The Bathrooms Design Boards
Our bathroom designs have truly been the hardest design decisions for me thus far, I think because everything in a bathroom feels so much more permanent and typically is more expensive! But finally we have everything chosen, and ready and waiting to be installed! But now—we’ve got ourselves a big set back…
ICYMI on Instagram earlier this week, our new house flooded over the past weekend, and I am still in shock. It was basically a freak accident that happened due to our sewer lines that are unconnected (as we’re waiting on the township to connect them), so with all of the heavy rain and snow melt, the water backed up into our house through the floor drain causing it to go all over our house. Thankfully the floor seems to be the only thing damaged, but it feels like a giant step backwards as we’ll have to rip out the trim and a bunch of flooring to replace it all. And the biggest bummer now is that our flooring is no longer in stock. So stay tuned for more heart breaking updates (haha kidding, kind of), but truly I’m grateful that it wasn’t worse and hopeful our insurance will help to cover the costs.

Honestly one of the things I am most excited about in this home is having TWO bathrooms! And one of them being a master on suite with a double vanity!!! I can hardly wait! I will be changing out the hardware on this bathroom vanity to these pulls.
I also have been loving the look of checkered tile floors rn, and the bathroom floor was really the last and hardest choice for me to make, so when I came across an older post from Chris Loves Julia, and how they created a stone checkerboard look in their old dining room with porcelain tile—I knew that’s what I wanted to do! So I ordered a gray and ivory porcelain marble like tile in 12 x24” that Jason will cut down to 12x12” squares to place down in the checkered pattern. This ended up being so much more affordable than the mosaic marble tile I had originally pictured in here! We are sticking with the marble mosaic tile on our shower floor (since it’s a smaller amount that is needed)!
There’s a few mixed metals in this bathroom, which is a little out of my comfort zone, but I think it’s going to work out good! The bathtub drain was installed before any official decisions were made and it ended up being black, so we then had to go with a black shower fixture to match, but black felt to harsh to do with the white bathroom vanity, so I stuck with the nickel faucet and knobs (for now!). But I’m such a visual person, so I need to see things all together to make my final decision, if I love something as is or if it needs some tweaking. And I think that’s one thing about design and decor that I feel like happens often, people are afraid of change, but it’s YOUR house—you can or changing your mind, change the paint, change your decor, etc. because you can love it for a season or for forever—there are no rules, especially in your own house!
Here’s some inspo from the amazing Identite Collective for the guest bath. I knew I wanted to add some color and vertical wall planks from the get-go and this solidified my decision! I love the modern vintage vibes in here! And the peg towel hooks are the cutest!! I can’t wait until we get to do all of the fun finishing touches that really make the space feel like home.
