We Made it to Magnolia!
This past summer we flew down to Texas to experience the happiest place on earth, Magnolia! Bryana had a wedding to photograph in San Antonio and thought there’s no way she could go without visiting Magnolia, so she invited us to come along and I’ve never said a quicker “yes!”
Although it was the hottest weather that us Yoopers have ever experienced (we’re talking 114 degrees, y’all), it was so worth it! We thought we were going to run into huge crowds and long lines, but thankfully we didn’t! That was definitely one of the upsides of going in late July.
We ate at Magnolia Table our first and last morning in Waco, it was the perfect way to start and end our trip! Honest to Betsy, it was the best breakfast we’ve ever had and I still have dreams about Jo’s buttermilk biscuits and strawberry butter… Bryana has made the recipe from the Magnolia Table cookbook a couple times since and it’s pretty much the best thing ever!
Some of our favorite things about Magnolia Table was the thought and intention that was put into every detail of the restaurant. Besides the beautiful decor, they have leather pouches on the walls behind the tables to put your phone away, which helps you to be present with those around you, as well as the option of eating at large community tables, so it’s not only a space to have a meal with those you know, but to make new friends as well!
If you plan to eat there, our tip is to be prepared to wait for a table since it’s pretty much always busy, but they have a cute gift shop to browse and a coffee bar in the outdoor patio to try a lavender latte while you wait. If you’re too hungry to wait, they have the option for take away as well!
After breakfast, we made our way over to the Silos and as cliche as it sounds, it was everything we dreamt it would be and more! The food trucks, the courtyard, the gardens, everything was incredible. Of course, the market and the bakery were our faves! As soon as we walked in, it felt like we were walking into someone’s home, it was so cozy! Jo decorates the market for each season and it’s so inspiring. From the ceiling to the floor, it’s overflowing with classic farmhouse charm, I could have spent hours just looking around at everything.
From the Silos Baking Co. we highly recommend the lemon lavender cupcakes and chocolate croissants, but honestly, everything looked and smelled amazing! While we were sitting at a picnic table eating our treats (and sweating), Jason noticed a man standing in a window of the market, looking out over the courtyard. He turned to us, pointed and said: “who is that in the window?!” So we all looked over and thought it had to be him! It was Chip!!! We waved, he waved back, Jason gave him a thumbs up, and he gave a thumbs up back! Jason was trying to figure out how to signal “can we come up there?” Haha. We still can't believe that we actually saw him!
We spent one afternoon driving around to find a few of the Fixer Upper homes and they were just as beautiful as they were on the show! Also, can we talk about how perfect Magnolia House Bed & Breakfast is?! It’s actually a dream of Bryana’s to own a Bed & Breakfast one day!
On our last morning in Waco, we were able to check out the original Magnolia shop on Bosque (now the Magnolia Warehouse Shop), it was so neat to see where it all started! The inside was tiny, but so cozy and welcoming. It was filled with all kinds of marked-down home decor and clothing items. Bryana scored a beautiful leather bag and I grabbed a few small things, if only we could've fit more in our suitcases!
Are you a fan of Chip & Jo? We are huge supporters of them and everything they stand for, they have built their success on a foundation of faith, kindness, respect, and community. This is especially evident when you visit Waco. We will be sharing our full Waco experience soon! Stay tuned!
