If you guys remember a few months back in September, I posted on Instagram that we started following the Simplest Budgeting Method ever and y’all, I’m here to tell you, it really is the simplest ever!! It has helped us to be so much more disciplined and intentional with our money. Here’s a few things we did to save $10,000 in just three short months!

  1. Simplest Budgeting Method—I used to think that creating a practical budget and really sticking to it was difficult and if I’m being honest, I was just lazy and didn’t really WANT to, but Jordan Page (the founder of the method) breaks it down and helps you realize—you are in control of your money!! Don’t let it be in control of you!

  2. Shelf Cooking—This was a huge game changer in meeting our grocery budget each week! Shelf cooking basically teaches you how to plan your meals based on what you currently have and need to use up in your fridge and pantry. Essentially learning to cook first with what you do have, not with what you don’t! Which equates to wasting less food and making the most of your grocery budget!

  3. Planned for expenses—We looked at our monthly expenses and how the due dates fell according to our pay periods and the money that was not needed to cover these expenses after payday was moved directly into our savings account. So that we wouldn’t be tempted to make unnecessary purchases and overspend. Out of sight, out of mind!

  4. Needs over wants—We really worked on breaking the habit of buying what we wanted and only spending money on what we actually needed. And truly just by following this budget each week, it really helped us to be more aware of what is actually a necessity vs a want. The thing is, we could spend all of our money on all of the nice things in the world, but it won’t truly bring us happiness or fulfillment, we will always want more or the next new thing. So breaking that habit has been such a freeing feeling! We of course still have wants and will still treat ourselves because yolo, but we are so much more purposeful about those purchases!

  5. We got serious and took control—It can so often feel like you don’t know where all your money goes when you aren’t keeping track of what and where you’re spending. $5 here, $10 there, it all adds up! So we finally decided that it’s up to us to get serious, be disciplined, and stick to a budget to help us reach our goals and dreams! And if we can do it, you can too!!
