You guys!!! It’s finished! Two months later, our backyard patio project (on a budget) is complete and we are pretty darn happy with how it turned out! We just keep thinking “why didn’t we do this sooner?!” Haha! It’s been so nice relaxing by the fire in the evening and just enjoying our backyard on a beautiful summer day with the kiddos! You can read down below for all of the deets!

  • We started by removing top soil and leveling the area, then hauled in 2 inches of gravel and covered it with sand, landscape fabric, and laid the pavers.

  • The pavers are 18” x 18” square and are spaced 1 1/2 inches apart. Then we filled in the spaces with some smaller gravel (sorry, can’t remember what it’s exactly called!)

  • I picked up some boxwood bushes (at a local greenhouse—Sleemans!) planted them on the side between the patio and then fence, and added cedar mulch to finish it off.

  • Jason built the chairs and loveseat following this tutorial (for the most part) and I tell ya, there’s pretty much nothing that man can’t do!! We stained the furniture with Minwax Special Walnut and sealed with a polyurethane finish.

  • We slowly added each piece to complete the patio—strung the lights, the white outdoor tables, and the gas fire pit, which is by far my favorite part!! It’s sleek and adds so much coziness, and doesn’t leave you smelling like campfire!!!

I also joked on stories that Walmart should sponsor us because we found so many things from there, but that’s just what happens when you live in a small town with very few shopping options! Haha. But thankfully everything seemed to come together well. What do you guys think?!
